I am excited to share with you my ideas, experiences and feelings as it relates to food! As an adolescent, I was a little on the "chunky" side, but I was very active with being involved in competitive cheerleading at a very early age. In middle school, I knew I wanted to be "smaller" and I began changing my views on how I looked at food.
IDEAS ABOUT FOOD
My family loves to cook and at an early age, I found it intriguing to cook a variety of dishes using differrent types of recipes. This also taught me how to prepare healthy foods. My food of choice became grilled chicken. Over the last 5 years, I have found it to be interesting how food works with our bodies. I will admit that I'm not always the healthiest eater, but I do like to know what I am putting into my body. When I'm at home, I often use a juicer to prepare fresh juice and I enjoy making fresh soups, using a blender. I like to absorb all the nutritional values from the foods that I can.
EXPERIENCES WITH FOOD
Three years ago, I became vegetarian because I thought it would be a healthier diet. I soon realized I was absorbing tons of carbs and not enough protein, so I incorporated chicken into my diet. Eating grilled chicken and vegetables everyday grew on me, so I decided that I had to improve my cooking techniques by using different recipes. Recipes gave chicken a whole new meaning! My family and I were able to learn some delicious ideas that we started using in our kitchen. When we traveled to foreign countries and around the U.S., we would ask for the recipes and duplicate our own version of the meals that we enjoyed. The best so for is Jamaican Jerk Chicken. To make our dishes interesting, we purchased different sauces and spices from various restaurants that we visited.
FEELINGS ABOUT FOOD
Food can be addicting and in previous years, I over-ate when I was under pressure. Now, my feeling towards food is that it is used for fuel that I need to maintain good health. I love delicate desserts and I love foods that are loaded with carbohydrates, but now that I know how food works with my body, I try to avoid unhealthy eating. For me, organic food is a high priority. I love to use the juicer when I'm at home. I believe in 5 small meals a day and not eating more than the size of my fist. "We Are What We Eat" is my idea on food and I am trying to make better eating choices while living on my own. My experiences with food has been incredible! From delicate desserts to fabulous chicken dishes, but in moderation. Knowing the health risk that is involved with overeating and unhealthy eating has changed my feelings towards food and I try to eat to fuel my body and exercise regularly.
